Showcasing the role of LNPs at Westminster

At the beginning of December, Dorset LNP Manger, Maria Clarke, joined other LNPs and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Local Nature Recovery at Westminster to showcase the value of LNPs to parliamentarians.

Chair of the APPG event, Pippa Heylings (MP for South Cambridgeshire) opened the event and speakers highlighted the value of LNPs and our role in supporting a wide range of issues including wellbeing, economic development and farming.

A video setting out the role of LNPs was produced and shown at the event – view it here (6mins).

Twenty LNPs meet in Dining Room A of the Houses of Parliament, and welcomed over 20 MPs and five Peers from the four main parties. We were pleased to speak with Vikki Slade MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole and Tom Hayes MP for Bournemouth East.

A video of the event was produced by Freddie van Mierlo, MP for Henley and Thame’s team – view it here (2mins).

We will continue to work with the APPG – which aims to:

  • Provide a unified voice for Local Nature Partnerships in Parliament.
  • Advocate for the full integration of Local Nature Recovery Strategies into planning, farming, and environmental policy.
  • Highlight the role of nature in addressing climate adaptation, afforestation, land use planning, public health, and community wellbeing.

Oxfordshire LNP provides the secretariate for the APPG and organised most of the event. More information can be viewed here.
